I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of sour letter
No. 6 (10524/05) of the 13tn uitiac tracemitting to me by direc-
tion of the secretary of state for my otservations a despatch
from the Colonial office on the subject of the Hongkong ordinance
to authorize companies registerod under the Companies urdinance,
1885, to keep local registers of their sexters outside the Colony.
the necessity of stricter leáislation to enforce the spirit,
if not the letter, of the mungkooą Companies Ordinance, 1885,
has been recognized for soca time past by the British mercantile
community in Chias, It is generally adɛitted that the ordinance
has to soge extect baûn stused and that the Hongkoné Government
have not been receiving an adequate reture for services rendered.
